Fire Safety & Manual Handling

Course description
This course is aimed at drivers of goods vehicles who wish to improve their knowledge of the causes of fires and of how & when to tackle them in a live situation, and to reduce their exposure to the risk of personal injury through poor manual handling techniques.
Objectives
The course objectives are to:
- Enable the driver to understand the basic principles of fire safety
- Cover the common causes of workplace fires and how & when to take action
- Introduce the driver to the legislation and statistics regarding accidents in the workplace
- Clarify good manual handling techniques in everyday situations
Learning outcomes
By the end of the course the driver should be able to:
- Understand the principles of fire safety
- Understand the importance of the fire plan
- Safely identify and employ fire extinguishers
- Recognise injury patterns caused by poor manual handling techniques
- Demonstrate good lifting techniques for a variety of objects and weights
Assessment
Drivers will be invited to participate in a practical extinguisher exercise and a multiple choice quiz at the end of the course.
Certification
On completion of this course a certificate of attendance will be sent to the driver or their employer (if applicable), and their attendance will be recorded on the Driving Standards Agency database as required by the legislation governing the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence.
